MPLS – Protocol Independent Network

MPLS or multi protocol label switching is one of the most successful of technologies. MPLS has many advantages. The major one being its neutrality towards protocols. MPLS networks use multiple protocols to transfer data packets from one IP address to another. MPLS networks are highly scalable and can intelligently route time-sensitive voice and video packets through low-latency routes throughout the network.

MPLS Networks on Lower Bandwidth

MPLS networks are very bandwidth efficient. MPLS assigns labels to the data packets, which are then transferred from one router to the other. At each node the label and the entire data packet is read by the router and transferred ahead according to the information present in the label. This saves on bandwidth.
